Fresh flowers are little works of art, and with just a bit of love, they’ll brighten your home for days. Here are my favorite tips to help your blooms last as long as possible:
🌸 Trim the Stems
When you receive your flowers, give each stem a fresh diagonal cut (about 1 inch from the bottom). This helps them drink more water.
I use hydrangeas quite often, in addition to the diagonal cut, you can also use a vegetable peeler to give the bottom 2 inches of the stems a very light peel - those divas are thirsty - also a little spritz of water on the blooms helps them tremendously.
🌸 Fresh Water = Happy Flowers
Change the vase water every 2–3 days. Rinse the vase too, to keep bacteria away. A small drop of bleach in the fresh water will also help with the bacteria.
🌸 Remove Any Leaves in Water
Leaves below the waterline can spoil quickly and shorten the life of your bouquet. Strip them off so only stems touch the water.
🌸 Keep Them Cool & Comfy
Flowers don’t like heat! Keep them away from direct sunlight, heating vents, or drafty spots. They’ll last longer in a cool, cozy place.
🌸 Avoid Fruit Bowl Neighbors
As tempting as it is to style your bouquet beside fresh fruit, avoid it! Fruits release ethylene gas, which makes flowers wilt faster.
🌸 A Little Refresh Goes a Long Way
If your flowers start to droop, re-trim the stems and give them fresh water — many bounce right back.
🌸 Enjoy the Journey
Every bouquet changes a little each day. Watch the blooms open, shift, and show off their personality — it’s part of the beauty.
